Tornion Voima has joined the Energy Efficiency Agreement for the period 2026–2035. Through this agreement, Tornion Voima commits to improving the energy efficiency of its operations by the end of 2035.
As part of the agreement, Tornion Voima will develop its energy efficiency in a long-term and systematic manner, actively monitoring progress toward its goals. The agreement also helps reduce energy costs and emissions.
“Tornion Voima has participated in previous agreement periods, and we consider it important to continue contributing to the national energy efficiency targets during the upcoming period as well. The agreement enables us to report the measures taken, which allows us to verify the savings achieved in fuel, electricity, and heat across all our facilities. Overall, the agreement supports the consistent development of Tornion Voima’s operations,” says Niko Rautio, Development Manager at Tornion Voima.
What is an Energy Efficiency Agreement?
Energy Efficiency Agreements are voluntary agreements between the Finnish government and various sectors, guiding industry, energy and service sectors, the real estate sector, and the public sector toward more efficient energy use. The upcoming agreement period is the fourth of its kind and covers the years 2026–2035.
Over the decades, these agreements have become an established part of Finland’s energy policy. They play a key role in Finland’s climate and energy strategy and support the national goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.
A wide range of government bodies and industry sectors have committed to the Energy Efficiency Agreements. Participants include the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of the Environment, the Energy Authority, the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), the Finnish Food and Drink Industries Federation, Finnish Energy, the Chemical Industry Federation of Finland, the Finnish Forest Industries Federation, Technology Industries of Finland, the Finnish Commerce Federation, the Finnish Hospitality Association (MaRa), the Central Organization for Motor Trades and Repairs, the Finnish Association of Building Owners and Developers (Rakli), the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, and the Regional Facilities Centre.
